Readers of this blog and anyone who knows me even vaguely will know that wandering, especially the aimless sort, is a topic close to my heart. I run guided tours and workshops on ambling exploration, and last year I put out my first zine about getting lost with intention.

There aren’t a lot of people writing on this subject (or other topics related to psychogeography), so I wanted to highlight and recommend an article recently published on The Conversation. In it, writer Morag Rose discusses urban explorations and includes elements of physical accessibility and the role that other factors, such as gender, can play in how people move through their physical environment.

Though I have given some thought to matters of physical accessibility, in part because of my own inconsistent physical abilities owing to a dodgy knee, I haven’t yet done enough in terms of addressing accessibility in my work. This piece serves as a good reminder to do more work in that area. As for the role of gender and related factors in these matters, as a cishet white guy I mostly do not face these barriers. As such, I am glad to see someone with greater insight addressing them in ways that I simply cannot.

It’s not a long piece, but a very interesting one, and I’m sure it will lead me to do more investigation into some of the topics mentioned. Highly recommended, please give it a read.

If you are aware of other articles and resources I should feature here, please let me know.
